American Truck Simulator developer SCS Software released new screenshots and details of the upcoming Road Trip expansion.
The feature we get to see today is simply named Atlas, and it pretty much does what it says on the tin.
It’s designed to encourage the player to explore and visit selected locations on the map. You can select a local Tourist Board on the map and then drive to it guided by your GPS. When you get there, the map will display several notable spots in the surrounding region.
You can then visit them all. They include Points of Interest, Viewpoints, and Photo Trophies.
Points of Interest are activated simply by driving through them, and you can revisit them via the Atlas or Gallery with a live camera feed of the place. You’ll also get a brief description of the location when you unlock it.
Once you have visited all the locations bound to a Tourist Board, it’ll be marked as complete, and you’ll get a postcard as a memento. You can display it on your car’s dashboard.
It’s worth mentioning that Atlas will also work when you’re driving a truck, so you don’t actually need to use a car to enjoy it.
At launch, the feature will include Tourist Boards in California within the base game, and in the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota DLCs.

American Truck Simulator is available for PC, and it’s the sister game to Euro Truck Simulator 2. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are also coming.
South Dakota is likely the next DLC, and we already saw its Truck Stops, countryside, towns, cities, more Truck Stops, the road network, more settlements, even more towns, Hot Springs, Badlands National Park, the Industry, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, and the Black Hills.
The game will soon cross the borders of the United States and go to Canada with the British Columbia DLC, of which we also saw some screenshots, some of the towns, and the tunnels.
Then American Truck Simulator will return to the US with Indiana and North Dakota, on top of a Nevada rework.
Another big project is the Road Trip feature, spearheaded by the Ford Car Pack (of which we also saw the Ford Crown Victoria, the Ford F-150, the Ford Mustang Fastback, and the Ford Bronco Badlands) and the Ram & Dodge Car Pack with the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody, which will expand the simulator’s experience from trucks to cars and pickup trucks, including pure exploration and the delivery of smaller packages.
