Last month, Misc Games launched its largest test update yet into beta for its hit sea simulator, Ships at Sea. Tomorrow, Ships At Sea Update V0.8.7 is set to officially release on Windows PC via Steam at 9:00 AM EDT.
Set around Norway’s Lofoten Islands, Ships At Sea allows players to build careers through commercial fishing, cargo transport, and maritime service operations while progressing from small boats to larger vessels, with the latest free patch expanding the experience by introducing multi-vessel offshore operations. The centerpiece of update V0.8.7 is the IMT 9604, the game’s first Class 4 offshore service vessel.
Designed to function as a mobile base at sea, the IMT 9604 can deploy and recover two smaller playable support boats, allowing players to coordinate offshore jobs across multiple vessels. The IMT 9604 incorporates licensed vessel designs and equipment from Longitude Engineering, Z-Bridge and Steerprop. The companies’ bridge systems and propulsion technology are represented in the game’s offshore operations.

It was revealed that the first offshore wind farm contracts will accompany this content and will include missions requiring players to tow replacement turbine blades using new equipment. Ships At Sea Update v0.8.7 will even double dedicated server capacity from eight to 16 players, making it easier for larger groups to manage multiple vessels, form companies and complete jobs cooperatively.
Dedicated servers can be hosted on Windows or Linux, with launch support available through 4Netplayers, GPORTAL and BisectHosting. Dynamic Positioning is also being introduced, which automatically maintains a vessel’s position and heading while compensating for wind, waves and currents during offshore operations.
Misc Games has even redesigned the Shipyard and Dry Dock interface, making it easier to preview, customize, upgrade and sell vessels. The developer said the Ships At Sea Update V0.8.7 also includes improvements to vessel handling, buoyancy and water simulation, fishing systems, multiplayer synchronization, performance and overall stability.
Lastly, a roadmap update for future content was teased, stating that the game’s full 1.0 release will be announced at a later date. To celebrate the update’s release, Ships At Sea is available at a 40% discount on Steam through July 9, 2026, discounting the Early Access price to $14.99.
