Today, IrishJohnGames released Rise of Piracy patch 37, focusing on expanding player agency through UI improvements, experimental features, and creating a clear path toward the game’s full Early Access release.
Rise of Piracy patch 37 introduces several quality-of-life features and balance adjustments designed to streamline the naval empire-building experience.
Navigation and exploration have become far more efficient, as treasure maps now display a larger area, and treasure can be detected from farther away. Over time, storms will also deal damage, with the one exception being Explorer-class ships, which remain immune.

Fleet Management is more organized, thanks to the addition of an Auto Crew option and a Sort by Faction filter for the minimap to better manage large-scale naval operations. Speaking of UI efficiency, a UI Scale slider and Key Rebinding are available to anyone who wants to personalize their control scheme, and a new Island Capture options screen allows players to choose between Sacking, Occupying, or Gifting captured islands.
These will all play a key role in the upcoming roadmap of Rise of Piracy. Most upcoming development time is dedicated to polishing existing features, with a focus on audio design and UI refinements rather than adding major new mechanics. The post update even confirmed that boarding is designed as a “fire and forget” interaction, where success depends on preparation rather than mid-battle micromanagement.
Other mid and longer term goals include a Caribbean Campaign map, Bounties, full controller support, and various unique mission and unit types.
Rise of Piracy is currently in a closed testing phase on its 3rd major iteration. The developer aims for a major patch every 2-3 months as it nears its Early Access release on PC. Anyone interested in trying out these changes before the full early access release can switch to a public test branch here.
