According to the developer, despite being in Early Access, Rise of Piracy is now in a position to demonstrate how the finished product will play, how to progress as a player, and the various elements of the game that set it apart from others. The game will feature a fully fleshed-out campaign map that fans can explore while the full Caribbean map is being developed.

Trade systems in the map will be similar to those in the finished game, and encounters, factions, and interactions will be very similar. Continued player feedback will play a significant role in improving gameplay leading up to the 1.0 release, with plenty of community input already helping to improve Rise of Piracy since it entered development eight years ago.

The Rise of Piracy starts players out on a small ship with a handful of coins, tasking them with completing missions and finding treasure to build their economic strength and relations with other factions. You can also choose to fight, board, or sink other vessels for loot and build up your fleet of ships and their crews to take on the most challenging tasks, such as capturing islands of various strengths and compositions.

Fill your fleet with a large variety of playable ships from the 1600s to 1900s, from the light and fast Sloop to the tremendous firepower but limited maneuverability that comes with the 120 Gun ship of the Line. Outside of ships, you’ll be able to stop at taverns and hire crewmen for your fleet to fill your ships with specialized crew.

Use this crew to board hostile ships or to invade and capture islands to secure passive income, but beware that hostile actions will have consequences amongst the factions – fleets of pirate hunters are constantly seeking bounties. Campaign difficulty is set to scale dynamically and remain challenging regardless of how strong players become.
