During a panel at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Anaheim, California, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida answered questions on a few hot-button topics about the game.
Likely the most inevitable question asked during the livestreamed panel was about the possibility of the implementation of a “butt slider” to help shape our characters’ behinds.
Yoshida-san himself brought it up jokingly (but was it really a joke?) yesterday during the keynote that revealed some of the features of the next expansion Evercold, which will also bring new character customization options, so it was obvious that this question would come today.
Besides, this has been an ongoing meme among the Final Fantasy XIV community, so it’s going to be hammered until Yoshida-san says it’ll never come or we get what we want.
Yoshida-san actually admitted that it was considered in the past, but now that the graphics update is done, he promised that he’s going to go back once more to talk to the leads of the technical artists and character modelers and discuss it.
He did mention that if the butt is large, it could cause issues with a sword sheath or a cape, but the audience responded that Zenos (a popular Final Fantasy XIV villain) can get away with it, causing a moment of hilarity.
Another character customization question involved the possibility of implementing longer hair, possibly reaching the lower back, which is another long-standing community request.
Yoshida-san brought up possible issues again, but again, he was confronted with the fact that Zenos pulls it off.
He then mentioned that long hair would be very difficult to animate. If it had no animation, it would be easy, but he knows that’s not what players expect. That being said, like with the butt slider, he’ll go to the team and ask about it.
Another question relevant to character customization is the addition of more Glamour Plates. Yoshida-san mentioned that adding more would increase the load of data characters bring with them when they use the upcoming same-region player matching.
That being said, when that feature is completed, he’ll approach the Final Fantasy XIV Server Lead to ask them to please consider the possibility. Yoshida-san admitted that it’s natural to want more glamour plates, considering the additional options that have been introduced, and he’s sure the Server Lead sees that as well.
Another interesting piece of information is that, while job quests may not make a comeback (it would be basically impossible with so many jobs), the scenario team is aware that many would like to see their characters return and have asked about that before. He believes that little by little, the team will try to see if there are opportunities to revisit those characters.
Although it may not be possible “to do every time,” so he doesn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August.
It’s worth mentioning that we’ll soon get update 7.5 in two parts, which will ferry us toward the expansion. The first part will launch on April 28. You can watch the trailer, read about the content, and enjoy the first gameplay.
After that, we’ll get the new expansion “Evercold” in January 2027.
