Today, Square Enix revealed the next expansion coming for its popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.
The expansion is titled “Evercold,” and we also learn a release window, which will be in January 2027.
Evercold will bring us back to the theme of dimensional travel and will have us travel to another of the Reflections of Hydaelyn, specifically the fourth, which is a world ravaged by ice and is falling into ruin.
Below you can see the teaser trailer in English. If you prefer Japanese voice-overs, you can check out the dedicated trailer on the official YouTube channel.
Square Enix appears to have learned from the lessons taught by Dawntrail, and the role of the protagonist returns to the Warrior of Light, basically, our player character.
Of course, the expansion will bring more than a new story and a new setting, but it’ll also include plenty of gameplay changes, which shouldn’t surprise veterans of the game.
More details about the expansion will be shared today during the first Fan Festival 2026 in Anaheim, California, so stay tuned on Simulation Daily, as we’ll have a full report later.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S. Incidentally, we also learned today that the game is close to 35 million registered accounts.
It’s worth mentioning that we’ll soon get update 7.5 in two parts, which will ferry us toward the expansion. The first part will launch on April 28. You can watch the trailer, read about the content, and enjoy the first gameplay.
