Helene Bøksle is the voice behind the award-winning music in Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, and after fifteen years, she’s recorded the music again for Conan Exiles Enhanced after reclaiming her voice in the aftermath of the terror attack on Utøya in 2011.
On July 22, 2011, a terrorist in Utøya took the lives of 77 people. The terrorist left a manifesto, which included the music Helene Bøksle recorded for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. This left Bøksle feeling as though her voice was taken from her, and she hasn’t performed the music since.
Now, after a journey she speaks on here about reclaiming her voice through the years, Helene Bøksle has re-recorded four of the original songs. The original composer, Knut Avenstroup Haugen, has been closely involved in the process, which took three years to complete.
The terror attack, which her music and therefore her name were unwillingly attached to, left her afraid to perform the music again. However, she didn’t want to regret not returning to music that was written specifically for her powerful and emotional voice.
“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t afraid. I thought about it every day. I feared how the public, survivors, and next of kin might react. It became more and more clear that I needed to do something about it. This was a door I wanted to open, but the time never felt right—until now. It was now or never.”
Helene Bøksle performed the songs with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, which she insisted on.
The new music can be heard in Conan Exiles Enhanced, and players can listen to the ‘Ere the World Crumbles track below.
Additionally, Helene Bøksle will be performing these vocals live at NKR’s Store Studio today, May 8, 2026, celebrating the release of Conan Exiles Enhanced.
Conan Exiles Enhanced is available now on PC via Steam.
