Without further ado, I leave you with today’s flight simulation news.
Fokker F100 and F70 for MSFS Get New Screenshots and Details on Simbrief OFP Import

Just Flight shared new screenshots and details about the upcoming Fokker F100 and F70 for MSFS.
Specifically, the aircraft will have two methods to import your operational flight plan from SimBrief.
“Method 1: Enter the departure and arrival airport ICAO codes into the Company Route (CO RTE) field on the FMS INIT A page. The FMS will begin to search for an active OFP with matching ICAO codes. If it finds one, the Flight Plan will be imported into the FMS. If it doesn’t, the FMS will start to search for a flight plan file to import that is stored locally on your PC with a matching airport ICAO pair.
Method 2: Enter the departure and arrival airports into the FROM/TO fields on the FMS INIT A page and select the desired route on the ROUTE SELECTION page. Similar to the CO RTE logic above, once a FROM/TO airport pair has been entered, the FMS will start to search for any active SimBrief OFP, or flight plan file stored locally on your PC, with a matching airport pair. The results of that search will be displayed on multiple pages of the ROUTE SELECTION page, which is where the desired flight plan can be inserted into the FMS.”
The developer also shared that the Performance Calculator app on the EFB will have an “export” feature that will autofill fuel, weight, and takeoff speeds in the FMS.

DCS World Developers Working on Terrain Optimization to Reduce Installed Size

Eagle Dynamics provided an update on the work being done to reduce the installed size of some maps for DCS World.
The team is testing texture compression that is helping with that, with little to no impact on image quality.”
For example, the DCS Afghanistan map is seeing 25%-30% disk space reductions in internal testing, and the developer expects these numbers to improve as the technology matures.
The exact percentage will depend on the map, and the newest ones, like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, will see the biggest gains. Some like Marianas and The Channel already use different rendering approaches, so their install size is already small.
Older ones like Caucasus won’t see big changes since the textures they used were already small and had lower density.
