Critterville Goes Bankrupt puts players in the shoes of the newly appointed royal of Critterville, a town full of woodland creatures that’s about to go bankrupt. As the new leader, players will have to rule the town as they see fit to improve Critterville.

At the same time, players will have to balance politics and high society with managing the town. Between playing in the dirt (building the fanciest of gardens, of course) and attending fancy banquets, players will do it all. Or not, it’s up to the player to decide what they will and/or won’t do.

Instead of doing tasks manually, the townspeople can be hired and managed, provided Critterville has the funds. Players will need to hire and set work mandates, treating their subjects fairly or as cruelly as they decide.

Choices that the player makes has a pretty drastic impact on their subjects. The example in the gameplay trailer shows the player outlawing lunch breaks, which, justifiably, leads to an angry mob of critters at their door in the middle of the night, pitchforks and all.

Besides everything mentioned above, there are plenty of other features, such as romance, minigames, decorating, and more management-esque features. Players can check out some of the Critterville Goes Bankrupt gameplay in the trailer below:

Critterville Goes Bankrupt doesn’t have a release date quite yet, but players can wishlist it now for PC on Steam. There’s also a Kickstarter page players can keep an eye on for more information in the future.
