Embark Studios has reassured players that the anti-cheat system for Arc Raiders is important to the studio and that it’s a process that’s constantly ongoing and being invested in.
As the new Riven Tides map has launched in Arc Raiders, Embark Studios explains its anti-cheat system, which focuses on kernel-level protection that’s powered by machine-learning models. These are trained on player telemetry with several different layers to be as accurate as possible (though Embark isn’t willing to say more than that to keep the system secure).
While kernel-level anti-cheat programs are often looked at as being invasive by players, Embark Studios explains that it’s necessary at this point because most cheats are working at that level. Without this kind of anti-cheat, it’d be much easier for people to get away with cheating in Arc Raiders.
What this can pose a problem with is accessibility tools and programs. Official accessibility equipment can be expensive, so it’s common for players to use other devices to help them play if needed.
Embark Studios explained that it’s important that players who need these tools can use them without being penalized, while also going after players who abuse accessibility tools.
To do this, the developer is constantly refining their anti-cheat system to make sure it’s not flagging players it shouldn’t.
In the case of an accidental ban, the ban appeals process for Arc Raiders consists of a human looking into every case. This can make the process longer, but it ensures that each ban appeal is taken seriously, and the anti-cheat system can be refined if needed.
