Today, Valve announced pricing, release date, and details about the upcoming Steam Machine gaming PC.
They will release very soon, on June 30, and the pricing is certainly in line with what those who consider them a PC expected, but just as certain is the fact that it’s not console-level pricing.
The base stand-alone model of the Steam Machine with 512 GB of storage will cost $1,049/€1,039. If you want to add a Steam Controller, you’ll have to spend $1,128/€1,108.
If you want more storage, specifically 2 TB, you’ll have to spend $1,349/€1,359 or $1,428/€1,428, depending on whether you want the controller or not.
To sweeten the deal a bit on the more expensive 2 TB model, Valve is throwing in two faceplates, red fabric, and solid walnut.
Another relevant detail is that you can’t just pre-order or buy your Steam Machine. If you want one, you’ll have to sign up on the official site by June 25 at 10 a.m. PDT.
After that, Steam will randomly select those who will be placed in the reservation queue for each model and region. Those who get in will get an email in the week of June 29, including the option to purchase the machine. If you fail to do so in 72 hours, your reservation will be canceled, and your spot will be handed to the next in line.
Speaking of regions, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong will be served by a separate distributor, Komodo, while South Korea won’t get the Steam Machine at all.
Incidentally, the Steam Machine is limited to one per household.
