SCS Software announced that American Truck Simulator has been recognized as an official Route 66 Centennial Project.
The developer mentions that 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Route 66, and the Route 66 Centennial Commission has been selecting projects that ” help preserve, showcase, and share the story of this legendary road with the world.”
The simulator has been recognized as part of these projects, and the selection has been approved by the United States government and Congress.
Bill Thomas, Commissioner for the Route 66 Centennial Commission, had a comment to share:
“SCS Software’s Route 66 recreation in their American Truck Simulator video game offers an unprecedented way to experience the history, culture, and beauty of America’s most iconic highway.
This digital re-creation not only celebrates the centennial milestone but also honours the people and communities that have kept Route 66 alive for generations.”
Incidentally, the timing is apt, as the upcoming Illinois DLC for American Truck Simulator will complete the Route 66 across the US.
Below, you can check out a video and screenshots showing the Route 66 rework that was released with update 1.58.

American Truck Simulator is available for PC, and it’s the sister game to Euro Truck Simulator 2. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are also coming. The beta of version 1.59 for PC has just been launched.
Illinois is likely the next DLC, and you can check out its truck stops, the city of Marion, Rockford, Quincy, even more truck stops, Moline, Peoria, Champaign, the prairies, Bloomington, water bodies, more settlements, the Murals, and East St. Louis. We also recently got an extensive gameplay showcase.
South Dakota should come afterward, and we already saw its Truck Stops, countryside, towns, cities, more Truck Stops, the road network, and more settlements.
The game will soon cross the borders of the United States and go to Canada with the British Columbia DLC.
Another big project is the Road Trip feature, spearheaded by the Ford Car Pack (of which we also saw the Ford Crown Victoria, the Ford F-150, and the Ford Mustang Fastback), which will expand the simulator’s experience from trucks to cars and pickup trucks, including pure exploration and the delivery of smaller packages.
