Today, GIANTS Software reiterated its stance that all Farming Simulator mods must remain free. The statement comes following an influx of paid platforms, like Patreon, that sell mods for the game for profit.

Modding has played a key role in the series, especially with the PC community, with creators helping to shape both the games and the broader community. Farming Simulator is a long-running agricultural simulation series that allows players to build and manage their own virtual farming operations.

Across the series, players can cultivate crops, raise livestock, operate forestry equipment, manage finances, expand their farms, and use a wide variety of authentic agricultural machinery from real-world manufacturers. The games also feature multiplayer, letting players work together and build farms cooperatively.

The series’ extensive modding community has added new machinery, maps, buildings, tools, and gameplay features, expanding what players can do in Farming Simulator. Official support through ModHub has made it easier for players to find and use community content, making mods a core part of the Farming Simulator experience.

GIANTS Software supports rewarding modders but states that no Farming Simulator mod should require payment to access. Creators can still accept voluntary donations, build communities, monetize videos, and use opportunities available through ModHub.

Farming Simulator prohibits paid Patreon memberships, paid Discord roles or channels, VIP access, paid early access, and requiring donations before a mod can be downloaded. Selling mods or mod packs, restricting download speeds, and charging for extra assets like shaders and textures are also not allowed.

GIANTS Software considers an open modding ecosystem one of Farming Simulator’s main strengths. Keeping mods accessible encourages creativity, collaboration, and community growth. Players should be able to use mods regardless of ability or willingness to pay, and donations must always be voluntary.

The company acknowledged modders’ significant contributions and said it will keep finding new ways to support and reward creators while keeping mods accessible. This approach allows creators to build communities and receive support without paywalls.

This policy is significant for a series where community content shapes the long-term experience. Farming Simulator players often spend hundreds of hours developing farms and experimenting with equipment, and mods help the game continue to evolve after launch.

By maintaining an open approach to modding, GIANTS Software wants players to have the freedom to expand their farms without buying individual pieces of community content.

The latest entry in the series, Farming Simulator 25 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. For more info on the series, including the latest Beans & Alpacas DLC, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
