Today, Amazing Games launched the Steam page for their upcoming game Age of Transport – Blue Marble, a transport and industry simulation. The game is built on a 1:4 scale model of Earth, and there are over 70,000 real cities across 35 million km² of land.
One thing that sets Age of Transport – Blue Marble apart is that there is no traditional currency in the game’s world. Instead, cost is derived from labor, such as a locomotive manufactured from a boiler, and a frame and wheel sets made from ore that the player hauled themselves.
Age of Transport – Blue Marble focuses on realistic details instead of keeping things simple and abstract. For example, players must dispatch trains manually instead of assigning them to automatic routes. Train cars are organized, unhooked, and sorted in classification yards, just like in real life. Tracks are built from rail, sleepers, fastenings, and ballast, and they must be high quality for the train line to last. Of course, ships and aircraft will work similarly and must be handled realistically.
Up to 255 companies can operate on a single planet in the game and will continue to run whether the players are logged in or not, and other players can visit even while the host is offline.
Here are some additional details about what’s in store:
• The real Earth at 1:4 scale, installed locally — no streaming required
• Twelve eras, from the 1830s to the present day, played as one continuous run
• 199 goods across production chains up to nine steps deep
• More than 2,500 vehicles, from over 400 unique base models
• Persistent multiplayer for up to 255 companies per world
