Today, Star Citizen is again accessible at no cost for those who want to try it, via a Free Fly Event to celebrate the in-game version of Valentine’s Day.
The event, named Coramor, comes with a number of initiatives and sales, but arguably the most relevant is the fact that anyone can make an account on the official site without needing to spend any money, download the client, and give the game a go.
Of course, this won’t last forever, as the event lasts until February 23. Yet, it’s certainly enough time to take a look at what Star Citizen offers in its current form, and make your own mind on it instead of listening to the supporters or the haters.
On top of the event, Cloud Imperium Games released the Argo MOTH, a medium salvage ship designed for multi-crew operation. It’s based on the same chassis as the Argo MOLE, an existing mining ship.
You can check out the ship alongside development commentary in the videos below.
If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a PC exclusive, crowdfunded project directed by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame. It’s a multiplayer sandbox space simulator that has been in development for over a decade and in alpha for several years. It recently received version alpha 4.6 with new missions and content.
The crowdfunding total for the game is at almost at $937 million, and it’s currently sitting at $936,824,387. The game currently has 6,255,150 registered accounts, but we know that not all are paying customers.
Some are alt accounts, while others are simply created to enjoy the “Free Fly” periods like he one that just started.
It’s notable that Star Citizen’s funding tally for 2025 has beaten all records from previous years by a large margin.
A single-player campaign titled Squadron 42 is also in active development with a 2026 release window, starring an exceptional cast of famous actors, including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more.
Since the project has been in development for over a decade, you can see how Squadron 42 has evolved since its first reveal.
