Seina: A Tale of Spirits, an adventure game about a girl named Mika searching for her missing cat in a spirit world, now has a demo available. The game, created by solo developer Argyro Brotsi, is a hand-painted watercolor quest inspired by Brotsi’s honeymoon in Japan.

Mika’s journey to find her titular cat Seina takes her through overgrown, mossy shrines in a long-forgotten Japanese village. The game is described as a cozy exploration game with no combat or failure conditions; instead, players are encouraged to wander the world at their own pace while solving environmental puzzles and uncovering hidden paths. The areas are designed to look like a storybook with bright colors and calming music.

There are plenty of spirit animals to meet and help out on quests along the way, and it becomes clear that they hold the key to the missing cat’s disappearance. Each animal encounter brings the player one step closer to uncovering what happened to Seina and connects Mika to this ancient world.

Brotsi, founder of Pofupofu Studios, describes how Seina: A Tale of Spirits came to be:

“Seina started in a small Japanese village, not at a desk. I fell in love with the quiet of those places, the way the light fell through the trees, the way nothing was in a hurry, and I wanted to give people somewhere to step into that feeling. The whole game is my love letter to that trip.”

You can watch the official demo launch trailer for the game below.

Seina: A Tale of Spirits will be releasing on PC and consoles, though a release date is not yet confirmed. The demo can be played now on Steam.
