Today, Humble Reeds announced their game Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling, a story-rich life sim based on the best-selling Heidi children’s novel. The game is set to release on PC this December and on consoles in January 2027, and there’s also a demo out now.
Heidi, the novel originally published in 1880, is about the life of a five-year-old living in the Swiss Alps with her grandfather. It has sold over 50 million copies and has been adapted into 25 different films and television shows.
In Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling, Heidi is now a young woman who wants to escape from city life and return to the mountains where she was raised. She moves in with her grandfather and is entrusted with taking care of his goats while gradually becoming part of the small alpine village’s community.
The game features branching dialogue and personal choices, and players will be able to help villagers rebuild their homes and forge relationships with them. Players may wish to embrace a life of slow living or maybe even push for bolder change in the village. Heidi can deepen both friendships and romantic relationships with those she lives with in the community.
While taking care of the goats, players will be able to create artisanal products such as cheese, wool clothing, herbal remedies, and wooden crafts. These can be traded or shared with villagers to help improve their homes and their livelihoods.
Like similar farm or ranch sims, players will be able to explore the surrounding wilderness to forage for herbs and fish in the alpine waters. Heidi can learn new abilities along the way to make it easier to explore the world, such as climbing and leaping.
The story in Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling explores the themes of healing through nature, the importance of helping each other, and the ways one can rebuild a community.

You can check out the demo on Steam before the full game releases on PC in December. Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling will launch on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 a month later in January 2027.
