Today, independent developer Tactical Boar revealed that Veterans: Napoleonic Wars will launch in Early Access on October 28, 2026.
First announced back on January 20, 2026, Veterans: Napoleonic Wars is a real-time tactical strategy game set during the Napoleonic era, focusing on large-scale historical battles. In each fight, players command armies and rely on battlefield positioning, military formations, and tactical decisions rather than traditional base-building mechanics.
Combat centers on controlling infantry, cavalry, and artillery across Napoleonic-era battlefields, with historically accurate line, column, and square formations playing a crucial role in engagements. Players must account for morale, fatigue, ammunition, and line of sight while responding to enemy movements, coordinating flanking maneuvers, and using cavalry charges to break opposing formations. Dynamic weather, drifting gun smoke, and limited visibility also shape combat, forcing commanders to adapt as battles unfold.

The initial Early Access version will focus on Napoleon’s Italian Campaign of 1796–1797, featuring 10 historical battles. Players can prepare their armies before engagements by equipping units and developing their forces through a veterancy system that lets soldiers gain experience over successive battles. After launch, development will continue with additional historical battles, side missions, and improvements to existing combat mechanics as the team incorporates community feedback.
Ahead of the Early Access launch, Veterans: Napoleonic Wars will offer a demo during Steam Next Fest from October 19 to October 26, 2026. The demo will feature a selection of content from the Italian and Egyptian campaigns, allowing players to experience the game’s tactical combat and experiment with different military formations before the Early Access release.
