Today, Nexon has revealed that its Board of Directors has appointed Patrick Söderlund as its new Executive Chairman.
As Executive Chairman, Söderlund will oversee the long-term strategy, creative direction, and global development of Nexon games. This is a new position, and he’ll work alongside Nexon CEO Junghun Lee and the rest of the executive leadership team to carry out the plans he sets.
Patrick Söderlund will also continue his role as CEO of Embark Studios, which he also helped establish in 2018. Nexon also invested in Embark at this time, which is when Söderlund joined the Nexon Board of Directors. Embark Studios has seen great success with its multiplayer shooters The Finals and Arc Raiders.
Prior to Embark Studios, he spent time as the Executive Vice President of Worldwide Studios with EA and the CEO of Digital Illusions CE, which was the studio that was behind Battlefield and Mirror’s Edge prior to being acquired by EA in 2006.
Söderlund had plenty of great things to say about Nexon and its future in his new position:
“Nexon has all the assets to unleash dramatic growth – incredibly talented people, iconic franchises, large and committed player communities, and best-in-class live service capabilities. This is an enormous opportunity, but one that will require deep focus and discipline. Junghun and I are aligned on what needs to happen and I’m ready to get to work.”
Lee also reiterated that this position will help boost Nexon around the globe:
“Patrick and I are fully aligned on transforming Nexon. He’s built studios, attracted the industry’s best people to work with him, and shipped massive global hits. That’s exactly what Nexon needs right now.”
More news about Nexon’s strategic plans will be revealed on March 31, 2026, at the Capital Markets Briefing.
