Today, Long Jaunt launched the beta for Norland Patch 54, focusing on expanded political simulation, deeper intrigue systems, improved AI behavior, and plenty of bug fixes.
To start, the guest system has been overhauled as of Norland Patch 54, as visiting nobles now arrive with bodyguards, unique personalities, and hidden agendas that influence diplomacy, alliances, and rivalries. Schemes such as slander, fistfights, and the new Potion of Madness allow guests to influence the political landscape. Guest interactions are now more meaningful and less random.
Political systems have been expanded in beta with new mechanics, including usurpation, advanced intrigue, fistfight duels, puppet manipulation, and improved AI decision-making, while political demands have been reduced in response to player feedback. Rivals now also make demands only when their relationship with the ruler is hostile, thereby streamlining kingdom management.
A new map generation menu has been introduced to offer more customization at the start of each game, and players can even adjust hill placement and terrain settings, alongside an updated system that creates more reliable and varied maps. The world map is also much more dynamic, with neighboring kingdoms responding more intelligently to wars based on diplomatic ties.
Other notable improvements include less exploitable trade agreements, requests for military aid that carry greater consequences, and AI factions making more strategic decisions during global conflicts. Even more character progression changes add over a dozen new traits, including Berserk, Doctor, Master of Profit, Gourmet, Musician, Prince of Thieves, Voice of Reason, and Intuitive Genius; balancing for these traits will be addressed in future updates based on user feedback.
Norland Patch 54 also introduces improvements across combat, economy, construction, farming, diplomacy, tutorials, and the user interface, with new tutorials now covering advanced mechanics such as bandit camps, political followers, intrigue, migration, puppet systems, and prisoner management.
Lastly, the patch delivers bug fixes for crashes, AI behavior, tutorials, graphics, UI issues, and gameplay exploits, and adds new visual assets to several buildings. This beta is one of several patches and updates planned for the second half of 2026, with Norland set to receive a significant amount of new content according to the latest roadmap.
Norland is available on PC via Steam Early Access for a typical price of $29.99. For more information on this, other updates the medieval kingdom simulator has received since its release, be sure to check the rest of Simulation Daily.
