Today, Paradox Interactive had some great news to share with Crusader Kings 3 players who don’t want to spend too much money on the game’s omnipresent DLC.
The ability to create landless adventurer characters will become part of the main game instead of being tied to the Roads to Power DLC.
The development team explained that landless adventurers were introduced as a diversion from landed play, but they had underestimated just how popular the feature would be.
A custom Landless Adventurer start in 867 has become by far the most popular way to start the game among players, and I’d add that this shouldn’t have been surprising at all, but what do I know?
The change will be made with the Silk & Silver expansion coming later this year, but to be clear, this will be part of the accompanying update at no additional cost. You won’t need Silk & Silver.
The reason is that leaving the feature tied to a DLC would severely limit what the developers can do to expand that feature, as the changes themselves would be locked behind that paywall.
Making landless adventurers available to all turns them into a core feature that can be expanded freely, benefiting all players regardless of which DLC they purchased.
It’s worth mentioning that the developers are still determining precisely where to draw the line, and certain camp purposes and contract types thematically linked with Road to Power may remain exclusive to the DLC.
Another caveat is that this doesn’t mean that we’re getting an expansion to landless adventurer gameplay just yet. This will become feasible with the change and it’s being actively explored, but it won’t come at the same time.
If you’re unfamiliar with Crusader Kings 3, it’s a grand-strategy game with extremely compelling RPG elements, available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Unfortunately, new content comes to consoles with large delays compared to PC.
