At Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Simulation Daily interviewed the game’s Executive Producer Alex Cantatore, who provided some interesting information about the developer’s plans for the game.

Cantatore discusses what the 24/7 alpha milestone means for the game and its players, on top of the feedback received from the announcement of the new game.

We also hear plenty of interesting details about the plans and ambitions on the esports front. Looks like Smite fans and pros making the jump to the new games have a lot to look forward to including decentralized teams and an early ramp-up of the competitive scene.

As a bonus, we get Cantatore’s insight about the upcoming Olympic Esports Games and whether Smite 2 might be a good fit for future editions.

Lastly, Cantatore explains how the developers are selecting which Gods to implement in the new game, and how they’re making sure they’re portrayed respectfully in relation to the cultures they represent.

If you’re unfamiliar with Smite 2, it’s a free-to-play, third-person MOBA currently in a closed Alpha testing phase. It’s the successor of the popular SMITE originally launched in 2014 and still active.

The game, available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, is still in alpha, but can already be played by registering on the official site and hoping for the best or bypassing that step via a series of Founders’ Editions.

It was announced back in January 2024 at the Smite World Championship finals.
