Game of Thrones is an extremely popular TV show, but it has never had a full-fledged, non-free-to-play game. That is about to change with Game of Thrones: War for Westeros.
The game, which was announced at Summer Game Fest 2025, finally had a gameplay reveal this year at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
A couple of days later, at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, we met up with Game Director Ryan McMahon from Studio PlaySide to quiz him about the story, gameplay, factions, and how the developer is working to translate such a beloved show into a classic real-time strategy game.
Whether you want to know how the developers will balance Daenerys Targaryen’s famous dragons, or whether you’ll get to decide your alliances within the game, our extensive interview has you covered with plenty of interesting details shared by McMahon.
You can watch the full interview and hear everything straight from the lion’s mouth below.
Of course, we’d appreciate it if you could like it and subscribe to our growing YouTube channel, as that’s always extremely helpful. Comments and feedback are also always welcome, even more so if you have questions or doubts, to which we’ll try to respond ASAP.
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is coming for PC via Steam. We already know that it’ll launch in 2027, but a specific release date has not been announced just yet.
Of course, you should stay tuned on Simulation Daily, as we have plenty more content coming from Gamescom 2026, and Tokyo Game Show is approaching fast.
