NIS America announced the release date for the Western markets of the super-cute hand-painted farming sim by Nippon Ichi Software, Village in the Shade.
It’ll release with English, French, and Spanish languages for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on October 27.
The game has actually already been out in Japanese for a few weeks and already enjoys “very positive” user reviews on Steam.
On the surface, it’s a cutesy farming sim that sees you enjoy a cozy life in the Japanese mountain village of Kagatsu, yet you’re told to strictly follow three simple rules: don’t talk to strangers, don’t leave the village, and, whatever you do, don’t go out at night.
Of course, this is Nippon Ichi, so it’d be more surprising if the game did not have a dark side. The rules exist exactly to make sure that you and the other villagers don’t come into contact with that dark side.
If you want, you can also start the game in “Peaceful Mode” to enjoy a classic farming simulation experience without the creepy secrets and mysteries that would otherwise haunt Kagatsu.

- Unsettle Down: Make your new home feel like home! Buy furniture in town to decorate your house, then craft fences and other items with the resources you’ve gathered around your farm.
- Festival Fun: Experience traditional Japanese festivals and activities, like the summer festival and cherry-blossom viewing. Get closer to your neighbors as you enjoy laid-back living.
- Secrets Aren’t Meant to be Shared: Discover the truth about Kagatsu at your own risk, or follow the rules and keep from seeing a part of the village you don’t want to.
