Today, CD Projekt RED announced the first wide release window for its upcoming open-world RPG The Witcher 4.
Specifically, we learn from Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski that the game is targeting a 2028 release.
While the developer isn’t ready to share a precise release date, knowing the year is much better than nothing.
Nowakowski also mentioned that The Witcher 4 won’t be shown at Gamescom 2026, which happens this week.
That being said, we’ll get to see the new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Songs of the Past, and the first chance appears to be at the Opening Night Live show, which happens on Tuesday, August 25.
The developer will also have a booth where attendees will be able to see a large chunk of the expansion, so there’s plenty to look forward to.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best-selling RPGs of all time, having sold over 65 million copies worldwide. It’s definitely beloved among fans of dark fantasy stories, and it’s considered by most the pinnacle of the series.
It’s available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and miraculously, on Nintendo Switch.
It has already received two expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The new expansion, Songs of the Past, will be released in 2027.
The Witcher 4 will let long-time protagonist Geralt of Rivia take a well-deserved rest and will switch the point of view to Ciri. It will also move on from the proprietary Red Engine to Unreal Engine. A gameplay demo showcasing the engine certainly looked impressive when it was showcased last year.
