Today, Dovetail Games announced that Train Sim World 6, future entries, and all newly developed add-ons will be exclusive to current-generation hardware.
Beginning with projects developed from this point forward, new Train Sim World titles and DLC will only launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Xbox for PC, and Epic Games Store). Support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will end following the current generation of releases.
Dovetail Games states the move is intended to allow creators to fully utilize modern hardware, delivering improved performance, enhanced graphics, faster loading times, and more advanced AI traffic without being constrained by older console limitations.
Players who continue to play on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One won’t lose access to existing content. All previously released Train Sim World games (including the base version of Train Sim World 6) and add-ons will remain available for purchase and fully playable on those platforms. Additionally, anyone upgrading within the same console ecosystem-such as PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S-will retain ownership of their purchased games and add-ons.
The developers acknowledged that the decision may disappoint players who haven’t yet upgraded to newer hardware, thanking the community for its continued support.
The studio also teased what’s next for the franchise, confirming more information will be revealed during Dovetail Direct: Summer 2026, taking place on August 25, 2026.
Train World Sim 6 is the latest release in the series and is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC. For more information on this and other add-ons coming this month, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
