IndiaFoxtEcho Reveals Failed Projects for MSFS, But Some May Return

Indiafoxtecho revealed that three previously announced projects are on hold or canceled, also providing an extensive idea of the reasons.
That being said, some may be resumed at some point, although that’s unlikely for the Space Shuttle.
Macchi-Castoldi M.C.72
Specifically conceived for the Schneider Cup in 1930, this model flew the first time in 1931 and in 1934 established the world record as the fastest seaplane (and it is still the world record holder in the piston-powered seaplane category to date).
Why we wanted to do it?
Given that the whole core team is Italian and we operate in Italy, we thought it would have been nice to create this to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Italian Air Force in 2023.
What went wrong?
The root cause of this “failure” was the lack of documentation, which created big delays, to the point we had to re-focus the resources on other, more urgent projects.
What is the status of the project?
Technically it is still on-hold. We’d love to finish this one.
Similarly we had started an Ansaldo SVA several years ago, but it did not went much beyond initial 3D modelling.
Space Shuttle
This project does not require any introduction, and we had very positive feedback on early screeshots.
Why we wanted to do it?
Given there were decent 3D assets on the market, we thought we could use them to and have a fun “toy project”, which we could sell it for few bucks even if it is basically a glider only, so you could only simulate the last portion of the mission.
What went wrong?
Competition – another company had the same idea, with pretty much the same features we had though of. So, if we wanted to differentiate our offering, we should go way deeper in system simulation, and we had no resources to do that.
What is the status of the project?
The project is cancelled. We hope we will be able to resume/restart it – one day or another – but it is highly unlikely.
F/A-18C Hornet
Another model which is much requested…and another model which does not require introductions.
Why we wanted to do it?
The “Legacy” Hornet was more interesting for us that the E/F/G versions for two reasons: no default plane in the sim, and lots of countries (and cool liveries). Moreover there were decent (but somewhat inaccurate) commercial 3D models we could use starting point.
What went wrong?
The source material we started from turned out to be inaccurate, and with many geometry errors – also, the work to be done in the cockpit to bring it to current quality standard turned out MUCH bigger than we originally planned for.
What is the status of the project?
Technically on hold. We hope we will be able to resume it in 2027.
