Valve has released a new Steam Hardware Blog to discuss some questions surrounding the Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame, and it admitted to delaying news about the hardware’s price and release date.

The Steam Machine (and the rest of the ecosystem with the Steam Controller and Steam Frame) was first announced in November of last year. While the price and release date weren’t revealed then, Valve has opened up and said that those details were originally planned to be announced by now.

However, the memory and storage shortage issues that have plagued the industry have significantly impacted the production process. Between the limited availability and pricing hikes, the shipping schedule and pricing of the pieces of hardware (specifically the Steam Machine and Steam Frame) has had to be adjusted.

There’s still no concrete date or price for the hardware quite yet, but the goal is to get the first batch of them shipped in the first half of 2026. With these issues still changing pretty quickly, Valve has yet to set a price or release date and is monitoring the situation.

While there may not be answers for pricing and a release, there are answers for plenty of other popular questions. An FAQ on the Hardware Blog discussed several things, including the following:

  • Streaming services should work in theatrical browser mode
  • Most glasses should work with the Steam Frame, though some glasses frames may be too big — Valve is working on prescription lens inserts ahead of launch
  • The majority of Steam games run in 4K 60FPS with FSR, though some play smoother with VRR at 1080p (Valve is also working on HDMI VRR and improvements to improve this)
  • The Steam Machine’s SSD and memory are upgradeable
  • Steam Controller will work with any game in Steam Overlay

More information about the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller will be revealed in the future.
