Today, Bethesda revealed an in-depth look at the upcoming Starfield: Free Lanes update, which is scheduled to release on April 7, 2026, coinciding with the game’s launch on PlayStation 5.
Described as the game’s largest free update since launch, Starfield: Free Lanes update introduces significant improvements, focusing on interplanetary exploration and deep-space gameplay. You can now fly freely between planets within a star system without fast-traveling, and you can leave the pilot’s seat to decorate your ship, use workbenches, or chat with crew, while an autopilot handles the journey in Cruise Mode.
Other additions include New Game+ changes, like the Quantum Entanglement Device and Power Upgrades, which let you store and carry up to 50 items for a new playthrough and rank up Starborn abilities directly without revisiting temples or starting a new cycle.
New content like the Anchorpoint starstation, the Moon Jumper land vehicle, Asteroid base homes, and the addition of Muria Siarkiewicz as an elite crewmember will also add plenty to the experience.
Alongside the release of Free Lanes and the PS5 version, the Terran Armada story expansion is also set to launch on the same day. This paid DLC features a new questline involving advanced robot armies, a new companion, and new toys to combat the threat, adding NASA-tactical, ground-based military gear and weapons, including a new multi-gun platform (MGP).
Terran Armada will be available for $9.99 or free for anyone who got the Premium Edition. Starfield is currently available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, starting at $69.99, with additional DLC, like Shattered Space, available for a seperate charge.
