It has been a busy week for Elder Scrolls fans, as rumors run rampant surrounding the possible shadow drop release of an official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake. Today, the creators behind the project known as Skyblivion commented both on this rumor and how it affects their work on their unofficial fan remake.

In a statement on the official X account, the modders reassured fans that Skyblvion is still in development and will be released later in 2025, but it will only be available on PC. They emphasize that Bethesda has been nothing but supportive of the project and that even if an official remaster does come out soon, fans should refrain from comparing the two too heavily, and that they are excited to be able to get multiple modernized versions of one of their favorite games.

Below you can find the full statement.

We are on track for our planned release later this year. The prospect of an official remaster is exciting. Players will be the true winners, having the opportunity to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a professional version of Oblivion. pic.twitter.com/oYtYXr88G0

Skyblivion was originally announced back in 2012 by Zilav, a modder and member of The Elder Scrolls Renewal Project. The goal of this mod was to take the assets of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and port them into the Creation Engine that was used to make The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

While there were some speed bumps in the production, including the release of multiple unstable versions in 2014, more modders like K. Rebel joined Skyblivion, shifting focus towards remaking the game from the ground up instead of redistributing its assets. Earlier this year, a gameplay trailer was released showcasing 40 minutes of promising footage that proves the fan project is still a reality.

While there isn’t an exact release date yet, we do know it should be coming out as a Mod for free later this year. Interestingly enough, this is not the only such fan project; a different team of modders is working on Skywind, a remake of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, which also uses Skyrim’s engine.
