Today, Microsoft and Asobo had new content in store for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in the form of a World Update and the related Local Legend aircraft.
World Update 21, which is also out for MSFS 2020, features Australia, including TIN areas (what used to be called photogrammetry) for many cities, dozens of points of interest, and six airports (Broken Hill Airport (YBHI), Broome International Airport (YBRM), Coober Pedy Airport (YCBP), Bathurst Airport (YBTH), RAAF Base Tindal / Katherine Tindal Airport (YPTN), and Lord Howe Island Airport (YLHI)).
Fans on MSFS 2024 will also be able to enjoy 3 discovery flights, 5 precision landings, 2 low altitude challenges, and 2 rally race challenges. Those on MSFS 2020 get the 3 discovery flights, plus 3 landing challenges and one bush trip.
This comes at no additional cost for everyone who owns the simulator, and you can find a detailed list of cities below.
New South Wales
- Albury: Located on the Bank of the Murray River, a popular tourist metropolitan area.

- Sydney: The capital of New South Wales and Australia’s most populous city, it is widely heralded as one of the world’s most sophisticated metropolitan areas.
- Wagga Wagga: Australia’s most populous inland city, known for its beautiful botanic gardens and rich Aboriginal history.
- Wollongong: Internationally famous for its dramatic coastal setting and surfing beaches.
Queensland
- Brisbane: The capital of Queensland, a modern, outdoor-oriented city hosting the 2032 Olympics.
- Bundaberg: Located on the southern Queensland coast, it is one of the major gateways to the Great Barrier Reef and an important sugar cane hub.
- Cairns: Located in coastal North Queensland, it is also one of the key entry points to the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics rainforest.

- Mooroolbark: a key suburb of Outer Eastern Melbourne known for its Aboriginal history.

Western Australia
- Perth: The capital of Western Australia known for its beautiful beaches, surrounding desert national parks, and its relative isolation.
- Jandakot: A southern suburb of Perth, a major aviation hub due to its busy general aviation airport, Jandakot Airport (YPJT), and several aviation-related industries like flight training and air tourism.
- Joondalup: Located just inland of the Indian Ocean, it is a major northern suburb of Perth that is often called the “city of the north.”
- Mandurah: A vibrant coastal city south of Perth known for its large estuary with abundant bird and maritime wildlife.
- Bunbury: A coastal city south of Perth, called the “city of dolphins” and known for its beaches and marine life.
Australian Capital Territory
- Canberra: The national capital of Australia, it is one of the world’s best known planned cities and features stunning architecture and several renowned urban parks.
Northern Territory
- Darwin: The capital and most populous city of Australia’s Northern Territory known as the center of the Northern Territory’s extensive natural attractions, including coastal and desert destinations.
We also get a trailer showing off some of the areas included.
As usual, when a World Update is released, we also get a Local Legend aircraft, and in this case, it’s the CAC Boomerang. A World War II fighter and aircraft designed and produced entirely in Australia.
