Today, during a panel at FS Weekend in Lelystad, Vector Studio revealed more details about the upcoming Boeing 787 Dreamliner for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which was announced a few weeks ago.
We hear about the walkaround feature, where you’ll be able to open several of the panels and see the systems underneath. The iconic electronically dimmable windows in the cabin will also work. The goal is to recreate the experience of flying a 787 as faithfully as possible.
The team at Vector counts over 20 developers, which is large for a flight simulation third-party team. They have partnered with quite a few airlines to have access to the aircraft. The team includes both ground crew and pilots who work on the 787.
The system detail is “very, very deep,” and it includes the maintenance side of the aircraft. Every single system is developed to a “schematic level,” with every single switch and component modeled.
In one of the screenshots below, you can see the electrical system with the R1 generator disconnected and the right APU helping feed the system. These pages in the system are all live.
You can make calls on the SATCOM, as seen in another of the screenshots.
Simbrief and Navigraph integration will be included, alongside the in-sim tablet.
A failure system will also be included, and you’ll be able to reset circuit breakers. There are over 700 pages of normal and non-normal procedure checklists, on top of 200 maintenance pages. You can call maintenance and take care of the issues, or do it yourself. There are even Minimum Equipment Lists (MEL) that you can write.
The aircraft has both the standard Boeing EFB and its own proprietary EFB.
The team is “very confident” to meet the 2026 release date for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
