Today, Bungie revealed that the official preview playtest for its highly anticipated upcoming PvPvE survival extraction FPS, Marathon, is set to run from February 26 at 10 AM PT to March 2 at 10 AM PT.
Dubbed as Marathon Server Slam, this event will let players test out the game before launch. You’ll be able to test out two zones on Tau Ceti IV: Perimeter and Dire Marsh. The former is an edge‑site expansion on the colony’s outskirts, while the latter is the colony’s agricultural research hub.
There will be five factions (CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, and Arachne), each with its own levels and upgrade trees to unlock and progress through. While it isn’t the full game, you can expect plenty of rewards and Twitch drops that carry over into the main game upon launch:
Complete your first mission: Unlock the Standard Arrival Cache
- Standard implants (6x)
- Standard Runner shell cores (4x)
- Standard weapon chip mods (6x)
- Weapons: Overrun and Hardline
Reach Runner Level 10: Unlock the Enhanced Arrival Cache (Green)
- Enhanced implants (6x)
- Enhanced Runner shell cores (2x for each shell, 12x total)
- Enhanced weapon chip mods (4x)
- Weapons: Enhanced Magnum and Enhanced Hardline
Reach Runner Level 30: Unlock the Deluxe Arrival Cache (Blue)
- Deluxe and Enhanced implants (3x each, 6x total)
- Deluxe and Enhanced Runner shell cores (1x each for each shell, 12x total)
- Deluxe and Enhanced weapon chip mods (2x each, 4x total)
- Weapons: Deluxe Magnum and Enhanced Volley Rifle
- Backpack: Enhanced Base Backpack
More than anything, Marathon Server Slam will help developers test the global infrastructure at scale for the very first time, serving as a stress test, with the following issues likely occurring prominently. You’ll likely run into login queues, especially during peak hours, servers down hours for maintenance on short notice, and possible disconnects, error codes, and bugs.

The developers will be paying close attention to each issue that arises in hopes of resolving them for the full release. The event will feature cross-play and cross-save compatibility on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Marathon will be released on March 5, 2026, for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with full cross-play and cross-save, proximity chat, and more, at a starting price of $39.99. To celebrate the launch, all Destiny 2 players can claim themed rewards in the Eververse Store, with ornaments available for those who pre-order; pre-orders and Collector’s Edition are also available now.
