The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was full of information about the upcoming console, and with that came information on games that will be releasing alongside it.
It’s probably not much of a surprise, but the next Mario Kart title, Mario Kart World, was shown off at the very start of the trailer. Several new maps and characters like the iconic Moo Moo Meadows cow were in the trailer. Classic characters were seen changing costumes as they drove around, and new mechanics like jumping from wall-to-wall (and up a wall) were seen.
The maps change with weather conditions on 24-driver maps. Additionally, players can drive anywhere on or off the map they can see. The classic Grand Prix tours also include driving from track to track. Plus, a Knockout Prix will let players drive across the world with check-ins throughout.
And, perhaps the most exciting thing, is the ability to freely roam around Mario Kart World by yourself or with friends.
Mario Kart World will be exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. More details are coming on April 17 in yet another Nintendo Direct. It will launch on the same day as the Switch 2, which is June 5, 2025.
The next game shown off was the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. This is essentially a game that functions as a tutorial for the console. There are various games and things to learn about the console. This will be a paid game that releases on June 5, 2025, the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2.
