Square Enix shared new screenshots and information about the upcoming Dragon Quest spinoff Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World.
The game is set in the Kingdom of Netherwood, which is endangered by the mysterious Meteocite crystals that absorb the despair of the people and drain the land of energy.
We meet Thespidor, voiced in English by Feliks Mathur. He’s the creator of the meteocite crystals, but his motives are unclear.
King Withers, voiced by Kim Durham, gives the protagonists Bianca and Nera the missions to save his kingdom and helps them in their quest.
Ed, voiced by Vinay Lad, and Scruffy, voiced by Tobias Weatherburn, also meet our heroines in Witherwood Castle.
Using Witherwood as a base of operations, Bianca and Nera will visit a variety of regions, each with its own biome, with plenty of different areas to explore. There’ll be dungeons and powerful enemies with a red aura. They’re challenging, but they could turn into great allies if befriended.
We get to see the region of Taiboku with its bamboo groves and rice paddies, and the colorful Lushland, with its giant fruits and vegetables.
At some point during the adventure, Bianca and Nera will retrieve the Waterwing Can, a mysterious artefact with the power to restore life. Specifically, you can restore withered Roots of Creation, which can then be used to heal your monsters.
In proximity to some Roots of Creation, you’ll find monster wranglers that can be challenged for great rewards.
You’ll also find Parched Lifebuds that can be restored with the Waterwing Can. Reviving them will provide buffs that will help you during the game.
You can also use the Can on suspòicious bushes to spawn monsters that can be rare, or provide you with an item when you defeat them.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will be released on December 3, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
It was officially revealed alongside the re-reveal of Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams and showcased during the latest Nintendo Direct.
