Looks like Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have something more in the oven to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Like a Dragon / Yakuza franchise.

We get the announcement from Japan via a press release advertising a livestream that will go live on October 31 at 8:00 p.m. Japan Time. That translates into 6:00 a.m. EST, 3:00 a.m. PDT, 11:00 a.m. GMT, and noon CET, depending on when you leave.

Within the livestream‘s schedule, there is the announcement of a “new project” to celebrate the series’ anniversary.

While that sounds exciting, the circumstances of the announcement give me pause. All of the most recent Like a Dragon games have been announced at the same time to the English-speaking audience, with dedicated livestreams advertised with much fanfare.

On the other hand, this was announced only in Japanese, and the livestream itself doesn’t appear to have any translation.

This tells me that it may be something not aimed to the global audience or perhaps not a game at all. In Japanese gaming industry lingo, “new project” usually does mean a new game, but it’s not 100% of times.

I would personally advise keeping the hype to a minimum, and if we do get something good, it’ll be a nice surprise.

Incidentally, the livestream will be presented by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama and Like a Dragon Chief Producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto.

Among other things, they’ll share behind-the-scenes development stories from Yakuza 4.

You can find the livestream below if you’d like to watch along, and be sure that if anything notable is announced, we’ll report it here on Simulation Daily.

Incidentally, Sega just recently announced Yakuza Kiwami 3, bundled with Dark Ties, which will have us play as Yakuza 3 antagonist Yoshitaka Mine.

During the same event, we also got a video of Stranger than Heaven, which is currently in development.
