Channel37 has announced that The Last Caretaker Version 1.0 will be released in the spring of 2027, with the science-fiction survival-crafting game arriving on both PC and Xbox at the same time. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, and players can already add a wish for the Xbox version via the Xbox Store.

This announcement represents the next important stage in The Last Caretaker’s journey after its Early Access release in November 2025. Since going into Early Access, the game has had seven updates, has sold over 400,000 copies, and players have on average spent about 50 hours exploring its submerged world.

Channel37 has likewise put out a new trailer for the Xbox launch, giving players a preview of The Last Caretaker before its forthcoming appearance on console. The game’s survival-crafting experience will be made available to a new audience via Xbox Game Pass, where it can be played from the very first day.

The Last Caretaker tasks players with retrieving human seeds from a drowned Earth, restoring the systems needed to grow them, and finally getting humanity back into orbit. Since the game moved into Early Access, the world and story have expanded with new vehicles, locations, quest lines, HoloMemories, and Cultural Memories that offer further insight into Earth’s history and the circumstances that led to its present state.

New vehicles have likewise increased the ways in which players can explore the flooded planet, enabling them to travel from the ocean’s depths to the sky above. At the same time, the survivors of humanity in orbit have set up Committees and have started to make contact with Earth through Project Eden, thereby furthering the broader narrative concerning humanity’s effort to survive and return to the planet.

Channel37 has continued to refine the experience alongside these additions, improving performance, stability, usability, and existing gameplay systems based on how players have interacted with the game throughout Early Access. The studio has also revealed a new roadmap outlining the remaining development journey toward version 1.0.

The roadmap highlights upcoming additions, including new systems, locations, progression, and story developments, while Channel37 is also teasing additional content currently in development that has yet to be revealed. The next major milestone is Update 6.0, planned for PC in early October 2026, and will further expand the world and its systems as The Last Caretaker moves toward the larger questions and events that will shape its complete 1.0 experience.

The Last Caretaker

Spring 2027 will bring The Last Caretaker out of Early Access and into full release, but Channel37 does not consider version 1.0 the end of development. The studio plans to continue expanding the game after launch with additional content, systems, locations, stories, fixes, and other surprises.

“Early Access is giving us something more valuable than a fixed list of features to finish,” said Antti Ilvessuo, Co-Founder and Creative Director at Channel37. “It is giving us hundreds of thousands of people living inside the game and showing us what matters. Spring is 1.0, but it’s not where we put the tools down; rather, it’s the next chapter in an ever-evolving journey.”
