Today, Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games released a new video showcasing content coming to Alpha 4.1.1 and some interesting information about the update.

The video focuses on approximately 60 missions coming with the update, including one that lets you hunt a Polaris capital ship captured by the villainous Frontier Fighters faction.

Another interesting kind of mission includes a patrol that will present players with a sequence of random objectives, while another will prompt them to inspect probes in space, and one more type will involve ambushes.

A really interesting addition is ace pilots, who will have a chance to spawn as enemies in certain missions. They’re much more challenging, but they can be looted for items and “guild scrips” that can be turned in for goods at Wikelo’s Emporium.

Lastly, we get to see what we can expect from Invictus Launch Week, including the docked Idris capital ship that can be visited.

You can watch it below.

More additions and changes coming with the patch include an update pass to mining and refining, including the possibility to output refined materials directly to a station’s inventory instead of a ship, which was highly requested.

Components have also been rebalanced, while looting has been improved, and the Argo RAFT has been overhauled.

While the update has not yet been released and is being tested in the PTU, its launch for everyone is “imminent.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a crowdfunded project directed by Chris Roberts, who created the beloved Wing Commander series in the days of early PC gaming. It’s a multiplayer sandbox space simulator that has been in development for over a decade and in alpha for several years. It’s available exclusively for PC and has recently received update Alpha 4.1.

In the meantime, the crowdfunding total continues to grow, and it just passed $809 million. To be precise, it’s currently at $809,207,249. The game also has
5,639,846 registered users, albeit not all of them are paying customers. Many simply create an account to enjoy the occasional free-to-play periods like the one coming next week with Invictus Launch week.

The single-player campaign titled Squadron 42 is also in active development, starring an exceptional cast of famous actors, including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more.

Since the project has been in development for over a decade, you can see how Squadron 42 has evolved since its first reveal.

Full disclosure: the author of this article has backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
