Microsoft just shared new details about what’s coming in the semi-near future for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
During a livestream on Twitch, we heard, as usual, from Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann, Asobo CEO Sebastian Wloch, and Executive Producer Martial Bossard.
Neumann started by thanking the community and mentioning that the simulator is experiencing the highest monthly active users since launch. On top of that, MSFS 2024 is enjoying the best stability and highest frame rates ever seen in its lifetime.
Interestingly, we hear from Wloch that the developers tested PSSR 1 on PS5, and MSFS 2024’s TAA yielded better results, so the developers kept it. They have not tested PSSR 2, and it’s in the backlog. It’ll come as soon as possible.
Neumann also mentioned later in the stream that the next type of add-on to come to the PS5 marketplace will be liveries, while airports will require a debug tool that will help developers test their creations and make sure they’re not over-specced in terms of hardware requirements. This will take a bit longer to be completed.
Interestingly, it was also hinted that the Airbus A380 should come to the PS5 marketplace in a week or two.
Moving on to PC, the developers are looking at DLSS5, and there are quite a few issues with it. For instance, it completely changes the lighting. The timing of its implementation depends on receiving an API to control it.
Wloch mentioned that the perceived realism is amazing, but the actual realism isn’t always there yet, so the developers need to make sure that they can retain control over the lighting conditions, shadows, etcetera depending on the weather.
We get to see a new tool for aircraft developers that will help them debug their creations and improve their performance.
Interestingly, we also got an overview of the goals of the beta of Sim Update 7.
Next on the menu was news from Working Title’s Chris Burnett, who showcased an extremely welcome addition to the default EFB, in the form of a new widget that controls ground services and pushback. It’s coming in Sim Update 7.
We stay with Working Title and we hear from Matt Nischan, who shared more information about the next Expert Series aircraft, the Embraer Praetor 600.
We learn that the sounds are being done by Boris Audio Works, and we get a detailed features list, which you can see in the gallery below, alongside a number of screenshots.
Interestingly, while you can control the lighting via the EFB, there will also be interactable panels atop each seat.
All the circuit breakers will work, and all of the systems are physics-based down to the component.
Moving on to the world, we hear that some airports for South America have been made, alongside some points of interest, but more World Updates there will require photogrammetry cities, so Neumann is trying to convince Vexcel to fly there to capture more data. He has a meeting with them today,
Speaking of World Updates, we get the announcement of World Update 23: Poland and the Baltics, coming on October 27 (the date is tentative).
As usual, it’s coming with a payware Local Legend (number 25), and it’s the Antonov An-28, created by Andrei Tsvirenko at AT Simulations. You can see it in action below.
We then get the reveal of Aircraft and Avionics Update 6, which will bring a few payware aircraft to MSFS 2024 standards.
The release should be on September 29, and it’ll include the Dornier DO J “Wal,” the Dornier DO X, the Dornier DO 31, the Junkers F13, and the Junkers Ju 52.
Carenado will release the Cessna CT206G Stationair 6 on the official marketplace on October 6.
Sim Update 7 is planned for October 13, including the National Championship Air Races. The base Reno experience will be part of the base simulator instead of being a $20 add-on as it was in MSFS 2020.
The Full Collection with all the aircraft used to cost $60, and will be priced down to $40. Of course, those who purchased the MSFS 2020 version will get everything at no additional cost.
The beta of Sim Update 17 for MS2020 should come in November 17, and the Expert Series 3, the Embraer 600 Praetor, should release on November 24.
Below you can see the complete roadmap for 2026. Interestingly, Neumann mentioned our interview at Gamescom. The Livery Update we talked about is indeed materializing and is coming in December, bringing a number of liveries that Microsoft has managed to license.
