With EVO Japan in full swing, news about anime fighting games is pretty much inevitable, and Type-Moon and French Bread announced Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina.
The game will expand the current Melty Blood: Type Lumina with refined battle mechanics and new characters.
It’ll release in 2027 for PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
Available languages for text will be Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Voices will be in Japanese only.
If you’re unfamiliar with Melty Blood, it’s a 2D anime fighting franchise born on the doujin market in 2002. It shares the characters and world of Type-Moon’s visual novel series Tsukihime.
Below, you can enjoy a teaser trailer and an illustration by Takashi Takeuchi. A social media account has also been opened.

Melty Blood Twi-Lumina wasn’t the only French Bread news coming out of EVO Japan, and we also got to see the previously-teased new character for Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes, named Zohar.
She is nicknamed “Doppleganger,” and she was a key member of “Bankikai,” alongside Ogre and Strix. Further details on her battle style and moves will be shared at a later date, but we know that she’ll be released in the summer.
The game itself will get a big update, described as follows:
- Adjusted Game Balance / Revised System Mechanics & Move Properties
- To curb power creep, adjustments will be made to the overall game balance following review of the combo damage and gauge gain. Revisions will also be made to the system mechanics such as “Steer Ender” and “Throw Escape,” as well as the properties of certain powerful moves.
- Rating System & Rankings for High-Ranked Players
- In high-ranked matches, Rating Points will now fluctuate in addition to the traditional RIP. A dedicated ranking system is also planned to be added.
- Enhanced Training, Replay, & Mission Modes / Improved Frame Data Display
- The frame data display will be improved to support the visualization of opponent information and gap frames in sequences. Frame data will also be viewable in Replay Mode. In Mission Mode, a new feature will be added that allows players to review their previous play.
