Shared as part of a State of Play broadcast announced a few days ago, we get a deep dive into the game, starting with the story and the quest for revenge driving the protagonist, Atsu.

We see how she can hunt for bounties in northern Japan while her legend as a vengeful ghost grows.

Another element of the game showcased today is the variety of weapons we can use, including Katana, the larger Odachi, Dual Swords, Spear, and Kusarigama (a combination of a weighted chain and a sickle).

We also see how you can find shrines in the open world (or purchase a map to them from cartographers) to learn a variety of skills within a series of skill trees. Of course, there is also a variety of ranged weapons and gadgets like blinding powder.

More elements showcased today are camping and cooking, the character menu, equipment, look customization, and photo mode.

We also hear how the music has been composed, and the return of Kurosawa Mode, which features black and white visuals.

Two new modes have been added compared to Ghost of Tsushima, in collaboration with two more directors. Miike Mode, in partnership with 13 Assassins director Takeshi Miike, brings the camera closer and increases the splashes of blood and mud.

Watanabe Mode, in partnership with Shinichiro Watanabe, director of Samurai Champloo, adds lo-fi music during exploration and combat.

You can watch it all below.

In addition to the gameplay, we also learn about two limited edition PS5 bundles, covers to make your own, and DualSense controllers. You can check them out in the trailer below.

Ghost of Yōtei releases on October 2, 2025, for PlayStation 5. While it’s likely that it’ll come to PC like its predecessor and many other PlayStation games, we probably won’t hear about a port for a while.
