Gen.G has had an incredibly strong 2025 season in League of Legends, and that didn’t change as it entered MSI at the Esports World Cup 2025 — the team secured the trophy, winning MSI for a second year in a row.
Gen.G also won MSI in 2024, making a double-win for the South Korean team. So far this year, Gen.G has also won every tournament they’ve gone to except for the very first one, where they placed second. With a 2-0 win against FlyQuest and a 2-1 win against G2 Esports at the beginning of MSI, Gen.G seemed like a clear winner going into the Grand Final.
AG.AL met Gen.G in the Grand Final, making for an epic showdown between the MSI defending champions, Gen.G, and AG.AL, the team that took down the previous winners of the League of Legends tournament at the Esports World Cup 2024, T1. AG.AL had a lot of momentum after their win against T1 and its mid laner, Faker.
That same energy persisted, with Gen.G taking the first two games in the best-of-five Grand Final against AG.AL. However, AG.AL fought hard to take the next two games. This resulted in a 2-2 standoff, with Game 5 determining the winner.
Gen.G’s mid laner, Chovy, was able to play his signature Champion, Twisted Fate. This, along with stellar gameplay and teamwork, led Gen.G to the enemy Nexus and secured the win for the team.
