After years of rumors, Ubisoft has officially acknowledged that they are developing a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, titled Black Flag Resynced, and that it is confirmed for a 2026 release.
The news came by way of a deep dive into all things Assassin’s Creed for 2026, detailing the franchise’s future across all its titles, including an image of Edward Kenway standing on a ship with a logo for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced in the bottom right. While nothing has been confirmed regarding what will go into the remake, expect considerable visual and gameplay upgrades and possible new story content to help flesh out more of Edward Kenway’s journey.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was initially released on October 29, 2013, as the sixth major installment in the series. The story follows notorious Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, grandfather of Assassin’s Creed III protagonist Ratonhnhaké:ton / Connor and father of antagonist Haytham Kenway, as he searches the open seas for fortune and a mythical location called the Observatory.

The title was a hit with fans, especially thanks to its unique gameplay elements, which focus more on ship-based ocean exploration, while also featuring the usual land-based exploration, melee combat, and stealth system.
Alongside news of the remake, Ubisoft confirmed that the next flagship title, Codename Hexe, is set during the 16th-century witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire and is currently looking to release around the holiday season of 2027. It is described as a darker, more linear narrative experience featuring a female protagonist named Elsa. A multiplayer (Codename Invictus) and mobile title (Assassin’s Creed Jade) are also in the test and learn phases of development.
For ongoing titles, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is entering its “final phase of support” as of March 2026, while Assassin’s Creed Unity is getting a released a free 60 FPS patch for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Lastly, it was confirmed that production is moving forward with recent casting announcements and that a reveal is expected later in 2026.
