Today, Microsoft announced that it has once again delayed the long-awaited reboot of Fable, pushing its release from late 2026 to February 2027.

Fable is being developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios, and was originally announced in 2020. The project was initially targeted for a 2025 launch before being moved to 2026 earlier this year.

The news was announced via social media, with the team citing wanting to give the game more time to polish:

“In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7.”

According to Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty, the delay is not due to major development problems. Instead, Booty stated on the podcast above that the team believes the game is “in great shape” and wants it to have “a window all to its own” rather than competing with several massive upcoming releases scheduled for late 2026.

Fable is set to reintroduce players to the fantasy world of Albion while boasting new, modern visuals, combat systems, and the series’ signature British humor. Developers have already shown pre-alpha gameplay footage featuring exploration and combat, and Xbox has promised additional reveals during upcoming showcases.

The title is currently planned for Xbox Series X|S, PC, Game Pass, and PlayStation 5, reflecting Microsoft’s broader multiplatform strategy. For more information on this and other upcoming titles in the portfolio, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
