Today, SCS Software has officially released Euro Truck Simulator 2 Update 1.61 out of beta on Steam.
Euro Truck Simulator Update 1.61 is the latest update to the hit simulator, arriving alongside the newly released American Truck Simulator Update 1.61 as part of the studio’s latest round of improvements for both titles. It introduces several new features and changes, including Proximity Exploration, the Volvo FH Series 6 100 Year Edition, a complete Livestock Trailer rework, updates to the Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack, visual improvements through the Improved Material System, and map changes preparing the game for the upcoming Coaches DLC.
One of the major additions in Update 1.61 is Proximity Exploration, a quality-of-life feature designed to make discovering the Euro Truck Simulator 2 world map more intuitive without removing the need for exploration. When enabled, the system automatically reveals a small area around the player’s truck as they drive, reducing the need to cover every small section of road and helping players working toward 100% map discovery, while also revealing nearby accessible roads around rest stops, toll gates, border crossings, gas stations, and other locations where multiple road segments are positioned close together.
Secret roads still require exploration, and approaching a hidden route will reveal its first segment and hint at an undiscovered path, but you need to drive the full length to uncover it. Players can enable or disable Proximity Exploration based on their preference.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 Update 1.61 also adds the Volvo FH Series 6 100 Year Edition to celebrate Volvo Trucks’ 100th anniversary. The special edition features new exterior and interior options for the Volvo FH Series 6, including two paint jobs called 100 Year Edition – Night and 100 Year Edition – Day, distinctive dark and light exterior striping, Centennial logos, and two light box options featuring either the 100 Year logo or FH16 logo.
The anniversary truck also gets a new interior with black leather door panels featuring unique stitching, carpets, a rear wall decoration carrying the 100 Year Edition logo, and dashboard ambient LED lighting available in red or blue. Additional customization options include a black leather steering wheel and two-tone seats combining a black leather base with a grey textile upper section and the 100 Year logo.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 Update 1.61 also upgrades visuals with the Improved Material System, making materials like leather, fabric, plastic, and metal look more realistic and responsive to light. The system uses dynamic cubemaps for better reflections and ambient lighting, now available for the Volvo FH Series 6, Series 5, and Series 4, as well as the DAF NGD and MAN TG3 TGX.
The Livestock Trailer has been rebuilt from the ground up using modern European designs. The old belly axle version is gone, replaced by a lowered chassis with dual wheels. Players can now choose between Straight 3 Axle and Lowered 3 Axle chassis, along with Aluminum or fully paintable body options.
The reworked Livestock Trailer includes new accessories and expanded paint customization, allowing up to four color sections on different parts of the trailer. Freight Market and AI traffic versions now use the updated design, and company paint jobs have been improved for more realistic transport operations.
The Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack is also being modernized, starting with a full rework of one low loader trailer and its accessories. The new design is based on Schwarzmüller’s latest real-world model, with updated accessories to match current equipment and styling.
Cargo options for the Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack stay the same for now, and SCS Software says this rework is the first step in a larger plan to update the full DLC. Euro Truck Simulator 2 Update 1.61 also prepares the map for the upcoming Coaches DLC.
Nuremberg now features a new bus station and updated landmarks, while bus stations in Karlstad, Aarhus, and Thessaloniki have been upgraded to work with the new content. Other updates include a new station building in Karlstad, improved signage in Thessaloniki, and a new accessible street in Heraklion for its bus station. Border crossings now feature vehicle-specific navigation and new accessible areas. Additional changes to bus stops, layouts, and navigation help get the map ready for coaches.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a truck-driving simulator available for PC, but PS5 and Xbox versions have been recently announced. The Iceland DLC was revealed a few months ago, and you can enjoy additional screenshots, in addition to its churches, the Ring Road, the coastlines, Keflavík, the fjords, Akureyri, and the bridges.
Further national DLCs announced focus on Ireland (of which we also saw a few screenshots and an iconic road) and on Turkey. The development team is also hard at work updating relevant areas of the map, and the next rework focuses on the UK, including the Stonehenge area and Inverness.
Lastly, there’s the Coaches DLC, and we recently saw its bus stations, the Scania Touring, passenger satisfaction, the MAN Lion’s Coach, the Volvo 9700 Double Decker, the first gameplay, the new vehicle features, and how to purchase coaches and take on jobs.
