Today, Misc Games announced that Ships At Sea is expanding its maritime management gameplay with Update 0.8.8, introducing a new fuel-economy system and improvements to bunkering stations and the World Map. The update turns fuel from a routine operating expense into a potential income source, letting players transport and sell fuel between stations while managing their maritime businesses.
Ships At Sea Update 0.8.8 adds several new bunkering stations across the game world, including larger facilities that can accommodate bigger vessels. The World Map now features distinct icons for small and large stations, while new filters help players locate refueling points and compare dynamic fuel prices, with buying and selling prices displayed separately.
Fuel supplies are no longer unlimited at every station, adding another consideration to route planning and business management. Bunkering stations now have limited reserves and fluctuating prices, creating opportunities for players to purchase fuel at large facilities, transport it using external fuel tanks and sell it at other stations that need additional supplies.

The new system also introduces a visual warning to help players identify potential trading opportunities. When a bunkering station’s fuel reserves drop below 15%, a red warning light indicates supplies are running low, letting players spot stations that may benefit from a delivery without checking the World Map.
Players can still use bunkering stations to refuel their vessels or take advantage of the new trading system to generate additional income. The changes give players more options to manage their fleets and plan profitable routes across the game’s maritime world.
The developers are also preparing bunkering stations for future expansions beyond Ships At Sea Update 0.8.8, with plans to support different fuel types for various engines and generators. These improvements will lay the foundation for more advanced bunkering facilities and refueling operations, including those for larger vessels.
Misc Games has added new content to the game monthly, with three significant additions since August: tier 2 cranes, the MacDuff partnership, and tier 3 fishing vessels. The game is available in early access via Steam starting at $24.99.
