The 2025 Esports World Cup has been slowly announcing the games that will be included, and today’s announcement was DOTA 2, marking a return for one of the world’s biggest MOBAs.
DOTA 2 was included in the 2024 Esports World Cup as well, making its 2025 appearance yet another return announcement. So far, the games announced were all included in some way last year: Call of Duty: Warzone; Free Fire; Honor of Kings; and Street Fighter 6.
Technically, this is the first time that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is included, but it’s also the first year it’s been released. Last year, the worldwide competition featured Modern Warfare III, which was the latest Call of Duty title at the time.
Games for the 2025 Esports World Cup are being announced sporadically over the next few weeks. A countdown for each announcement is on the official website. The Esports World Cup is one of the biggest esports events of the year, awarding over $60 million in prize money and featuring eight weeks of gaming fun for both players and fans.
The Esports World Cup had 21 games last year, and this year the announcement page has 19 blank spaces. However, 15 of those countdowns are significantly earlier than the last 4, so there may still be 21 featured titles and four smaller games.
Previous games included Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, Tekken 8, Rocket League, League of Legends, EA Sports FC, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Seige, StarCraft II, Teamfight Tactics, PUBG, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Any of these games could be announced next (or be cut from the lineup), so be sure to check back at Simulation Daily for upcoming announcements.
