Update 12.4.3 of X-Plane 12 has officially completed its beta patch cycle and has been released into the wild today by Laminar Research.
The patch, which has been in testing since early May, is aptly dubbed “VR Update” as it focuses mostly on virtual reality compatibility and features.
First of all, we get Apple Vision Pro support, including the following features:
- NVIDIA CloudXR Foveated Streaming
- Spatial Tracking via AR Kit
- Full Pass-Through Capability
- Custom Masking
- Hand-Tracking
- Gesture Controls
- UI Wrist-tap functionality
It’s worth mentioning that Apple Vision Pro support requires a dedicated and free app that can be downloaded from the App Store.
Further VR features include support for mixed reality, improvements to hand-tracking and gestures, Variable Rate Shading (which renders the sim at ful resolution only if you’re looking if your headset supports eye-tracking), and an improved UI.
Hand-Tracking and Eye-Tracking are only compatible on headsets that are equipped with the Open-XR extensions. Incidentally, the Meta Quest 3 is not compatible with Hand and Eye-Tracking due to OpenXR software limitations.
Further changes unrelated to VR include a handcrafted Munich Airport, new scenery assets, a range of updated static aircraft with liveries, and warehouse assets (RGB Flat Hangars, Warehouses (With EU Trucks), and Cargo Facades).
You can find the full update notes on the official site.
Incidentally, at FlightSimExpo, we got a glimpse of the upcoming updates up to X-Plane 12.5.0 and beyond.
X-Plane 12 is currently available for PC, including Mac and Linux.
