Gaijin Entertainment has given War Thunder players a new look at a new Damage Control mechanic that’s coming in the next major update, Spearhead.

The new Damage Control mechanic will be a part of every naval vessel in the game. Players will be able to pre-pick three action presets that replace the firefighting, module repair, and water pumping basic repairs.

Once the vessel has received damage, the Damage Control mechanics will automatically start. Players will be able to choose which part of the vessel to prioritize repairing.

This new mechanic gets rid of the need to manually quick-repair while also stopping players from exploiting the old system.

The old system had an exploit where players would simply not repair certain areas of their vessels in order to keep crew away from the damaged areas and minimize damage.

Gaijin pointed out that this type of exploit harms other players who are doing everything right. Players who are accurately shooting and strategizing effectively should be rewarded for doing so, not missing out on well-earned advantages in battle because another player is exploiting a feature.

In Gaijin’s opinion, the new Damage Control mechanic will prevent this from happening and create a better environment in War Thunder. Players can read more about the idea behind the change here.

The Damage Control mechanic will be added with War Thunder’s Spearhead update, which doesn’t have a release date or many details quite yet. However, Gaijin also revealed today that the BTR-82AT tank would be arriving with the update.

War Thunder is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Players can learn more about other updates from this year, such as the Tusk Force update and the Leviathans update.
