Placeholder furniture is being replaced with higher-quality assets in an effort to make the game look more modern. These include living room, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen furniture. On top of that, textures that are frequently seen are being improved with higher-resolution assets.

The spawn of hordes has been rebalanced. They won’t spawn in the first week and gradually ramp up over time. It’s also possible to avoid them by traveling far enough.

Interestingly, it’ll be possible to kill all the zombies in an area. While zombies will then come in from other areas, it happens slowly.

Zombie navigation has been rewritten so that they can hunt players more effectively.

Another change is that the demo now has its own build separate from the upcoming main game. This is because the demo will remain up forever even after the game is launched. Stats in the demo will be limited to level 50 (of 100) and the world will be limited to a smaller area.

The developers plan to update the demo consistently to match the features of the main game. There will be no restrictions on play time and there will be cross-play with the main game.

Blocking has been replaced with a shove that knocks zombies back. This certainly looks familiar. Melee has also been modified to make impacts feel more satisfying.

Original music is being composed for Vein to replace the placeholder tracks. The first track is the main theme and is already playing in the main menu.

Players will be able to study common existing furniture to be able to reproduce them with crafting. Raincoats will be functional, and farming has been tweaked.

Lighting and the sky have been modified, fixing a persistent bug that made the day sky look too bright. Speaking of the sky, funnily, the sun used to rise in the west and set in the east. This has now been inverted.

More changes include better UI for the repair table, scope glint, destructive street signs, container labels, and much more. A lot of time has been spent fixing bugs.

Interestingly first quest is being worked on, and it’s the tutorial. It should come in the next update or the one following it.

If you’re unfamiliar with Vein, it’s a first-person zombie survival game that could be considered roughly as a fully 3D version of the popular Project Zomboid.

It’s available for PC on Steam, and as mentioned above, an extensive demo is already playable. It’s constantly updated and has recently received update 0.014. This is a rather user-friendly alternative to early access, meaning that you can download and enjoy the current build without having to spend any money.

While Vein is available in its demo form only on PC, it’ll also come for Xbox Series X|S when it’s completed.
